research has confirmed that the compounds that give tart cherries their bright red shade also relieve the pain of arthritis, gout, and head aches. MSU’s research confirms that tart cherries have an anti-inflammatory property called anthocyanins.

suggests that cherries may help reduce many of the risk factors associated with heart disease by reducing cholesterol, insulin and blood sugar levels. What’s more tart cherries are a rich source of melatonin, a powerful antioxidant that contains potent levels of Vitamin C, E and A.
Sweet cherries also pack a powerful healthy punch. Sweet cherries are considered a good source of potassium, which may help to control blood pressure and reduce the risk for hypertension and stroke. Melatonin is also found in sweet cherries which are effective in treating jet lag and promoting sleep.
